Calella de Palafrugell

Calella de Palafrugell is the liveliest of the three coastal villages of the municipality of Palafrugell — a former fishing village that has deliberately preserved its authentic character. White fishermen's houses, a colourful promenade, several sandy beaches separated by rocky headlands and a row of fish restaurants right on the waterfront. Calella has more scale than Llafranc or Tamariu, but is therefore also richer in facilities and atmosphere. Every July the village hosts the famous Habaneras Festival — sea shanties sung on the beach beside a glass of cremat — one of the most distinctive traditions on the Costa Brava.

For daily shopping and more extensive facilities, Palafrugell is 3 kilometres away. Llafranc is reachable on foot via the Camí de Ronda. The botanical gardens of Cap Roig — and the Cap Roig Festival in summer — are a short drive away.

Beaches & nature

• Platja de Calella — the central beach, lively and well-equipped, with restaurants directly on the waterfront.
• El Golfet — small sheltered cove north of Calella, quieter and wilder in character.
• Camí de Ronda — the iconic coastal path connects Calella with Llafranc and continues to Tamariu.
• Cap Roig Botanical Garden — spectacular gardens on the cliffs above the sea, venue for the famous summer festival.

• Fishermen's cottages & beachfront properties — the most authentic properties, directly on or close to the beach. Rarely on the market, top price.
• Boulevard apartments — sea views and direct proximity to the atmosphere. Popular as a pied-à-terre or rental investment.
• Hillside villas — modern and traditional villas on the slopes around the village, with sea views and more privacy.
